Reportage from when I went on to a guided tour at Bolt Tower in Vitkovice, Ostrava in the begging of May 2018.
- Bolt Tower is the highest geographical point in Ostrava. It was built on top of blast furnace 1 at the former mining complex. It is shaped to resemble fire.
- Facilities in Vitokovice are surrounded by wall and wires.
- At the begging of the tour, everyone has to put a helmet on for safety reason.
- This elevator to go up to Bolt Tower used to carry coals to the furnace, but it was renovated to carry people up to the tower.
- After reaching the middle part of the building, we had to walk up steps by foot to go to the top. Walking up the tower can be a terrible experience for people who are afraid of heights. The sign that says “NO CLIMBING” shows how a man can be curious about danger.
- This complex structured machine was used to steels. There are still facilities that produce steels in Vitkovice.
